NYX Can't Stop Won't Stop Foundation Review | Alissa x NYX Collab

by - 10:14 PM

Hi, Dolls and Gents,

NYX launched there Can't Stop Won't Stop Foundation with 45 shades to choose from! I am always on a hunt for an affordable foundation that is full coverage and matte finish. They collaborated with Alissa Ashley to bring us this new foundation and she made sure that the colour selection was popping.

The drugstore is really stepping their game of as late with more products that we find in Sephora, MAC, and department stores. They also started to expand their shade ranges - thank god, cause I can finally buy some drugstore foundation. Another company that came out with a foundation with 40 shade range is CoverGirl Trublend Matte Made Foundation, which I going to get my hands on and review it for you guys.

Now, let's get into the review of this foundation.

The Details

Lightweight, waterproof and pigmented AF, our new Can't Stop Won't Stop Full Coverage hustles as hard as you do. This comfy liquid formula comes in 45 flattering tones that don't transfer. Every creamy shade glides on smooth, delivering matte coverage and colour that stays true for up to 24 hrs. Our little overachiever also works to control shine and mattify your complexion all day long. But it doesn't stop there: this foundation is noncomedogenic and suitable for normal, oily, combination and sensitive skin types  - NYX Cosmetics

Packaging

The foundation comes in a glass bottle with a black pump and a clear lid.  The shade name is on the lid and the writing on the bottle is black and white.

Coverage

The coverage on the foundation is a full coverage foundation with a 24 hr wear.  The coverage is almost a full coverage with one pump, but with two pumps it is a full coverage foundation.

Price + Purchase

The price of this foundation is $18  CAD/$ 15 USD for 1 fl oz. You can purchase this foundation at your local NYX stores, Ulta, and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Shade Range

There is currently are 45 shades, which is really great. There has been a lot discussion about extending shade ranges in foundations to be more inclusive in both high end and drugstore brands. NYX decided to collab with Alissa Ashley to help with curating with the shades that were missing in the original line up. Alissa made sure that she would be able to everyone could find their shade.

I chose the shade 22 Deep Cool, which is described as a deep with warm undertones. I first thought that this shade would be light for me. I had a difficult time finding my shade in this foundation because three matched me, but it was all about the undertones. Though Deep Cool look too light, it actually wasn't and it was the perfect undertone for myself with a more neutral-cool undertone.  I recommend if you can go into a store that would be the best rather than ordering it online to find your shade.

Application + Consistency + Finish

The consistency of the NYX Can't Stop Won't Stop Foundation is a thin viscosity, making almost full coverage with one thin layer. I recommend shaking well before applying the foundation.

The finish of the foundation is a matte finish but not a drying matte finish. It feels lightweight in the skin and dries quickly for some people, so you have to work fast. It doesn't leave any tackiness behind, so you do not have set your face if you do not want to.

When applying the foundation, I used a damp beauty blender. A beauty blender will reduce coverage of a foundation. So, with a beauty blender, I used 1.5 - 2 pumps of foundation to get full coverage, which was good for me.  I haven't tried with a brush so I won't be able to let you know how it applies. It also dries darker than it swatched.  I was able to get full coverage without any problems and it didn't skip on parts of my face.

Shade Comparison

Here is a shade comparison to other foundations I own.

Longevity

Okay, so I applied this foundation around 9 AM and primed my t-zones with the Makeup Forever Step 1 Equalizer Mattifying Primer. I applied the foundation with a damp beauty blender all over my face.  I wore this foundation for about 15 hrs. The foundation was full coverage for me because I used two pumps of foundation with my beauty blender. I shook the bottle well before applying the foundation. This foundation does dry darker than it applied, it does not oxidize, it just dries down to the true colour of the foundation.

I blotted once around 1 pm on my lunch break. I did not find that it clings on to dry patches or settled in my laugh lines and forehead lines. I did not blot again after and did not touch up as well.

After 15 hrs of wear, I noticed that when my oils came through again around my side cheeks and nose, the foundation looked lighter. I also notice it was apparent with 15 hrs wear that I didn't blend out my concealer on my forehead properly. My forehead was not as oily as my nose and cheeks.  The foundation is not completely transfer-proof and it does transfer a little but not a lot. It didn't have any patches of foundation well wearing almost all day. It actually looks good and the only thing is that my oils came through, but did not break down my foundation on my nose at all. As much above, the foundation does dry darker than what you see in the bottle,  but it did not oxidize with 15 hrs of wear. Once it was dried, it stayed to that colour for the rest of the day.

Verdict

All in all, I really love how this foundation wore on my face for 15 hrs. This foundation reminds me of the Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation. I love that is a matte finish but it is not a heavy matte and you can't feel it on your face. The coverage is amazing for being a drugstore foundation. The shade range is amazing as well, so everyone can hopefully find their shade. I recommend this foundation is your combo, oily, dry and normal skin. This foundation will work for you, just make sure your prep your skin for your skin type. This is an affordable full coverage foundation. Congrats to NYX and Alissa for this collaboration.
