Skincare | What is the correct order?
Have you ever
started to care about skincare and start adding products that you know will
benefit your skin, but seems not to get the order right. Well, today I am here
to talk about how the order of your skincare is super important to make sure
that the products are actually doing it job.
I know
everyone has seen the hype around serums and face oil and much more and you
wondering okay that sounds good, but when do I apply it. I am guilty of doing
this.
So, why does
it matter?
It matters
because it product is created to help your skin, so applying the products in
the correct order will help your skin get the full benefits of each products.
Though, the order of the skincare products are important, but also consider the
time it takes for your skin to absorbs the products. That would mean that
timing is crucial.
So what is
the correct order, you ask?
Well, that is
easy rule to follow. You should apply your products with the thinnest
consistency to thickest, or from liquid to oil. In the day, many experts and
estheticians recommends to use a cleanser-toner-light moisturizer/day
cream-sunscreen routine. However, in the night you can load on the skin care
products. Here is the correct order for skin care products recommended by experts:
Step 1|Cleanser (Morning and Night)
Start off by
removing dirt, oil buildup with your cleanser. Some experts even recommend
double cleansing, which includes a cleansing oil to remove and dissolves your
makeup and then wash your face with your regular cleanser. For the days, you want a thorough cleanse,
exfoliate with a physical or chemical exfoliant at least once or twice a week.
Step 2|Toner (Morning and Night)
Many people
choose to skip out toners because they believe that most toners are harsh and
irritate the skin. Well, that is not the case. Though, they do not physically
shrink your pores, but toners server many different purposes. Every type of
toners is intended for different skin types and issues, so it is important to
find the correct one for you.
Step 3|Spot Treatment (Night)
Prescription
medications and spot treatments needs to apply to the skin as possible to
maximize their benefits. Acne treatments dries up the excess oil and kills
bacteria in your problem spots. For the best results, allow to least five
minutes before layering your next products to ensure it doesn't knock out the
benefits of the medication.
Step 4| Serum (Night)
Now, serums
have been the rage now and it comes in wide range of available ingredients, so
it important that the selection process come down in your specific needs. One
of the most common ingredient is Vitamin C, which helps stimulate new collagen,
reduce fine lines and wrinkles, protect skin from environmental pollutants and
antioxidant properties. Serums are super concentrated, nutrient-dense
treatments address specific concerns, it
is important to keep them close to the skin as possible. Some people apply
multiple serums that helps with different skin concerns. If you can not find a
serum that is all-in-one, then apply the one with the thinnest consistency
first.
Step 5| Eye Cream (Morning and Night)
It is
important to apply an eye cream at least every night, if not twice a day,
starting in your 20s. It's all about maintaining the health and thickness of
the eyelid skin and improving the skin quality in this area early helps ensure
that the eyelid skin does not lost laxity and it's smooth appearance.
Consistency is key. Regular use of eye cream over time will help the eyelid
skin elastic and can improve some fine lines and collagen loss.
Step 6| Moisturizer and Face Oil (Morning and Night)
Like the rest
of your body, your skins need to be repaired, restored and regenerated when we
sleep. This is why night creams are usually thicker and heavier and is designed
to be absorbed over the course of several hours. In the morning, you want a moisturizer that has SPF and light-weight.
Do you have
oily skin. Oily skin should use a moisturizer. Even though, your body is a
natural lubricate system that have glands that secret oil to help maintain the
coating against harsh outside conditions and infections.
When choosing
a moisturizer, look for key ingredients like glycerin, Hyaluronic acids,
coconut oil and other plant based oils and shea butter. The best time to apply
a moisturizer or face oil is when your skin is still moist. After using a
gentle cleanse, pat your face damp with another towel or face towel, but NOT
the towel for your body, apply your treatments and serums and then immediately
apply a layer of moisturizer or face oil to lock in the hydration.
