Today I want to tackle the difference between BB Creams and Tinted Moisturizer because I know many of us, who do not know the difference between these two. I am going to be honest, I did not know the difference between them until I educated myself about it. So, I thought if I did not know the difference that means there others who may not know as well. BB creams stands for Blemish Balm Cream, which was created in Germany by dermatologists who helped patients undergo laser skin surgery. The product to to help sooth and regenerate the skin. The craze of BB cream begin in Korea when famous actresses begin to wear on their face. It slowly started to brand out of Korea to Japan to China, Singapore and other parts of Asia, which became a hot trend. Most of the BB creams that was created in only in one shade, but many companies have created more shades. 

Here are the major difference between BB creams vs. Tinted Moisturizers. 


BB Creams (Blemish Balm Creams)

  • Soothing healing properties 
  • Suitable for most skin types
  • Limited number of shades 
  • Contains SPF of 35 or higher
  • Anti-aging properties 
  • Works as a foundation, concealer and moisturizer  
  • Pigmented, thick, creamy but lightweight and breathable 
  • Does not oxidize or fade away quickly 
  • Cheap

Tinted Moisturizers 

  • Normally either a thinner or thicker consistency than BB Cream
  • Has a range of shades 
  • Available in drugstore and highend stores
  • Not or very rarely have anti-aging ingredients 
  • Lightweight formula, but can lack or have great pigmentation
  • Fades sooner and shorter wear 
  • Low or no SPF
